Positron emission tomography can be used to visualize antibodies and other biologics non-invasively, in vivo. I-124 is offered for molecular imaging using immuno-positron emission tomography (immuno-PET) or Cerenkov luminescence imaging (CLI) techniques. Immuno-PET with I-124 radionuclide enables noninvasive imaging of whole, intact antibodies.

Iodine-124 (124I) is a positron-emitting non-residualizing radionuclide with a relatively long-lived half-life suited for immuno-PET studies. 124I-labeled monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are currently being used for clinical immuno-PET. 124I is the radionuclide of choice in combination with non-internalizing mAbs. A major advantage of 124I is that the radioiodination of proteins is a common practice within radiochemistry labs.
