IR Ready for Any Challenge

The Frontier FT-IR/FIR system enables you to benefit from faster method development and reduced instrument costs with a single optimized system. Automated range switching enables you to quickly move onto your next sample without manual reconfiguration. The system can be upgraded to a Spotlight microscope system, have an external optical bench added, or be configured with an upgraded detector at any time.

The Frontier MIR/FIR is suitable for a wide range of applications and can be configured to your needs regarding the level of performance desired to meet the demand of your daily IR analyses. See the configurations table below for all available instrument options.

Frontier MIR/FIR spectrometers feature:

  • Two temperature-stabilized DTGS (deuterated triglycine sulfate) detectors: one optimized for MIR with an enhanced SNR of 15,000:1 peak-to-peak for a 5 second scan, and one suited for FIR with 50,000:1 RMS noise peak-to-peak for a 5 second scan
  • Optional liquid nitrogen cooled MCT (mercury cadmium telluride) detector
  • Optical system with KBr beamsplitter for MIR for a spectral range 8,300 – 350 cm-1 at a best resolution of 0.4 cm-1, and an aluminum grid/ polypropylene beamsplitter for a spectral range of 700 – 30 cm-1 at a best resolution of 0.4 cm-1
  • Standard AVC/APV/AVI
  • Standard gold optics
  • Standard KBr windows for mid-IR applications; polyethylene and polyethylene/diamond windows for operation in the far-IR

An External Beam Pack can be configured to allow for automatic beam path switching for use with external accessories such as the Spotlight microscope, NIRA accessory, and the General Purpose Optical Bench.

Setting the Standard

The Frontier is loaded with a range of advanced innovations designed to provide optimal performance from the configuration you choose.

  • Dynascan interferometer – Fixed mirror-pair interferometer design does not require dynamic alignment to compensate for errors.
  • Atmospheric Vapor Compensation (AVC) – Features an advanced digital filtering algorithm designed to compensate for CO2 and H2O absorptions in real time removing the need for instrument purging.
  • Automatic Performance Verification (APV) – Optional feature comprising an integrated, fully automatic filter wheel containing traceable reference materials and software allowing for abscissa, ordinate, noise, ASTM, and USP tests to be performed.
  • Absolute Virtual Instrument (AVI) – Optional AVI standardization using gas phase methane spectra ensures instruments are accurately calibrated. Unique standardization allows data to be transferred precisely between instruments, side-by-side or in remote locations.
  • Sigma-Delta Conversion: The use of Sigma-Delta converters in the digitization of the FT-IR interferogram improves the dynamic range, reduces spectral artifacts, and increases ordinate linearity to provide accurate, reproducible results.
  • Variable J-stop – Limits beam divergence to provide optimal measurements at all resolutions, including intermediate settings.
  • Output focusing optics for second sampling station – Enables two sampling accessories to be installed simultaneously, removing the need to switch modules between measurements.
