The AlphaLISA® immunoassay kit for IL-31 enables the quantitative determination of human IL-31 in serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants using a homogeneous AlphaLISA assay (no wash steps). The assay shows no cross-reactivity with mouse IL31. Cross-reactivity with other species has not been tested.

Features:
Interleukin 31 (IL31), a cytokine with a four-helix bundle structure, is produced by type 2 helper T cells and belongs to the IL6 cytokine family. Recently, several studies reported on prominent functions of the novel T-cell-derived pro-inflammatory cytokine IL31 and the levels in serum associated with patient having asthma, chronic inflammation, and skin diseases. Assaying for levels of IL31 can be used to measure and monitor the amount of inflammation and to guide inflammatory disease treatment.
AlphaLISA technology allows the detection of molecules of interest in a no-wash, highly sensitive, quantitative assay. In an AlphaLISA assay, a biotinylated anti-analyte antibody binds to the Streptavidin-coated Donor beads while another anti-analyte antibody is conjugated to AlphaLISA Acceptor beads. In the presence of the analyte, the beads come into close proximity. The excitation of the Donor beads causes the release of singlet oxygen molecules that triggers a cascade of energy transfer in the Acceptor beads, resulting in a sharp peak of light emission at 615 nm.
